If you get an error when trying to install iExplorer 4 on your Windows PC that says "Cannot Start Application" or "An error occurred trying to download", try clicking on the link below to download the .application file to your computer:
If running that file doesn't work or opens in the wrong application, make sure the iExplorer.application file is in the Downloads folder of your Windows user at C:\Users\username\Downloads\ and then try downloading iExplorer's updated EXE install file from the link below and run it:
If you are getting an error or see a line in the install.log details about the component Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 not being installed, you should first just try restarting your computer and try again. Microsoft .Net Framework version 4.6.2 is required to install and run iExplorer 4 PC as well as most newer Windows apps, so try downloading and installing it from Microsoft's link below:
Then, once installed, restart your computer and try running or installing iExplorer 4 again.
This issue can also sometimes happen due to a security setting on your PC or a network security configuration (e.g. a corporation or school that has restrictions in place).
Administrator has blocked due to potential security risk
If you get an Application Install - Security Warning error about how "Your administrator has blocked this application because it potentially poses a security risk to your computer", the steps below should resolve the issue:
- Click Start in the lower left of your Desktop.
- Search for regedit.
- Click on the Registry Editor app that displays in the search results to open it.
- You'll see a list folders on the left. Navigate to the following registry folder and key: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\.NETFramework\Security\TrustManager\PromptingLevel
- After selecting PromptingLevel, make sure the values on the right for Internet and My Computer show as Enabled. If they were set to Disabled, change it to Enabled for both values.
- Close Registry Editor and try installing iExplorer again.

Application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor.
If you can't even launch the iExplorer EXE installer due to this error, try the following steps:
- Click on Start in the lower left corner of your Desktop and type in %AppData% and hit Enter.
- Select the search result and navigate to AppData\Local\Apps\ in Windows Explorer and delete the subfolder named "2.0".
- Run the iExplorer installer again.
If you still receive the error, or you don't see a 2.0 folder, please open the Run app (you can search Windows for "Run" and select the app) and run the following command:
rundll32 %windir%\system32\dfshim.dll CleanOnlineAppCache
(just copy it from here and paste it to the command prompt of the Run app and hit Enter)
Then, try running the iExplorer installer again.
